Live Entertainment

Any activity that enables people to experience enjoyment, happiness, laughter and pleasure in their leisure time is known as entertainment. There are various kinds of entertainment. Watching a movie or television or going to a concert is considered passive entertainment, while entertainment that is more active, such as sports or hiking, is regarded as recreation. A hobby is another form of entertainment and usually involves activities such as reading or playing a musical instrument.

The entertainment industry is concerned with providing entertainment for people. The many forms of entertainment include going to the movies or theater, attending sports games and country or square dancing. Children’s entertainment focuses on puppets, clowns, the circus, cartoons, animation and large, funny animals which can be entertaining for adults as well.

Forms of live entertainment include the theatre, plays, musicals, the circus, monologues, pantomimes and concerts. The cinema or movies are not considered live entertainment but recorded forms of live action. Movies are very popular among both adults and children, with new movies coming out nearly month of the year. The Oscars are a form of reward for those in the business of movies and once a year selects the best actor, actress, film and other categories for the movies released in the previous year.

Comedy is another form of live entertainment in which comedians provide laughter and amusement. Comedy developed during the days of jesters and travelling minstrels and now takes the form of slapstick, one-liner jokes and observational humor. Sit-coms, or situational comedies, have become a popular form of entertainment on television. However, television is not restricted to comedy alone and provides other forms of entertainment such as dramas, reality shows and sports events.
